Pastor Scott Lively, on Trial for Crimes Against Humanity, Running for Governor
Scott Lively, known for his virulent homophobia, has officially announced he is running to be the next governor of Massachusetts, as an independent. The Christian evangelical pastor and founder of an organization certified by the Southern Poverty Law Center as an active anti-gay hate group, is facing judgment in a federal court in a unique “crimes against humanity” case for his “work” in Uganda, which many say led to the drafting on the infamous “Kill The Gays” bill.
“Qualified. Experienced. Electable,” is his campaign motto, according to an article published last night at MassLive, a local Massachusetts news site.
Publicly available campaign finance records show he has about $3,000 in his coffers, including a $2,000 loan to himself.
“The people of Massachusetts need a candidate who can clearly and unapologetically articulate Biblical values without fear or compromise,” his campaign literature states. “They need a candidate who will tell the simple truth that abortion is murder, and homosexuality is condemned by God (but that Jesus forgives those who repent).”
He cites the greatest threat to the citizenry as the “Godless ideology of Cultural Marxism, better known as the ‘progressive movement.’”
If Lively has a campaign website, it seems impossible to find. His Scott Lively Ministries blog has no recent announcement of his campaign.
